Wine Lab is a mobile iOS application designed to help users select the right wine based on their taste preferences. The goal was to provide a functional, engaging, and visually appealing tool for wine enthusiasts, developed in line with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.
Role
I was responsible for the full end-to-end design process, including concept development, user flow mapping, wireframing, visual design, and preparing assets for development.
Challenge
The challenge was to create an interface that catered to both wine experts and casual users, while keeping the app intuitive and quick to navigate. Ensuring compliance with Apple’s iOS design requirements was also a key consideration.
Research & Insights
I began by gathering insights from wine enthusiasts and casual drinkers, identifying key selection criteria such as flavor profiles, food pairings, and budget. Competitive analysis of existing wine apps revealed that many were either too complex or lacked personalization features. This guided the focus toward simplicity, clear categorization, and a tailored recommendation system.
Design Process
I mapped the user journey from onboarding through wine selection, ensuring minimal friction in each step. Low-fidelity wireframes were tested with a small group of potential users to validate navigation and flow. Visual design followed Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines, with a clean layout, intuitive icons, and high-quality imagery to enhance user engagement.
Outcome
The final prototype offered a refined, user-friendly experience with a personalized recommendation system. Feedback from testing sessions indicated high satisfaction with the app’s ease of use and clarity of information. The design’s adherence to Apple’s standards ensured a smooth transition to development, positioning Wine Lab as a polished, ready-to-launch product.
